Motocross tires

A rear tire that slides out when you exit a corner and hit the throttle, or a front tire that loses grip on a bone-dry dirt track. Your tires are your only point of contact with the ground. If your tire knobs are worn flat or your tire compound isn’t suited to the conditions, you’ll lose precious seconds. Or worse: you’ll crash hard.

At MXProStoreParts, you’ll find the perfect motocross tires for your bike and the terrain you ride on. Enter your bike details into our parts finder and see exactly which tire sizes are compatible. We only stock top brands like Dunlop, Michelin and Pirelli — brands we fit ourselves in our workshop. Fast shipping, so you can get back to hitting full throttle this weekend.

Buying motocross tires: the key points listed

Here’s what you need to know before hitting the track:

  • Choose the right tire compound: Sand requires tall, open knobs; hardpack terrain calls for shorter, firm knobs.
  • Check your rim size: Motocross typically uses a 19-inch rear tire, while enduro bikes run on 18-inch rims.
  • Keep tire pressure low: Ride between 1.0 and 1.4 bar for optimal tire footprint and grip.
  • Replace your tires on time: Don’t wait until the knobs crack; rounded knobs already mean significant power loss.
  • Choose a reputable brand: We swear by the Dunlop Geomax, Michelin Starcross en Pirelli Scorpion.

Dunlop Geomax, Michelin Starcross, or Pirelli Scorpion: which one should you choose?

No tire excels on every terrain. That’s why you should tailor your choice to the tracks you ride most. The Dunlop Geomax-series is the absolute favorite in MXGP and stands out for its predictable corner grip. If you’re looking for a tire with an extremely tough carcass and knobs that won’t crack easily on harder tracks, then the Michelin Starcross (like the Starcross 6) is your best option.

For riders looking for maximum traction in deep sand ruts or mud, the Pirelli Scorpion MX Soft delivers ironclad grip thanks to its lug design. We recommend running front and rear tires from the same brand for a neutral balance on your motorcycle.

Sand, intermediate, or hardpack: tailor your tire profile to the track

In the Netherlands and Belgium, you can’t avoid heavy sand tracks, like those in Lommel or Lierop. Here, you need a soft-compound tire with tall, widely spaced knobs. This open profile ensures sand is immediately flung away, keeping the tire self-cleaning.

Riding on harder clay tracks or variable terrain? Then choose an intermediate tire. These all-around tires have extra support knobs on the side to prevent knobs from bending on hard sections. Avoid riding a sand tire on a hard, rocky track — you’ll tear the knobs off within an hour.

Tire fitment and installation: avoid the biggest mistakes in the workshop

Nothing is more frustrating than a tire that doesn’t fit your rim or rubs against your swingarm. Therefore, first secure your motorcycle on a sturdy motorbok and always use our partsfinder to find the exact size for your brand, model, and production year. A 110/90-19 rear tire is the standard for a 250cc four-stroke, while a 450cc often uses a wider 120/80-19 tire.

Also pay attention to tire type: our motocross tires are Tube Type (TT), which means you always need a binnenband inner tube or a mousse to install them. Use plenty of tire grease during installation and check your rim strip to prevent spokes from puncturing your inner tube. You’ll find all these handy tools at our banden-accessoires.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find answers to the frequently asked questions.

  • Welke buitenband is geschikt voor mijn type terrein?
    • Zand: zachte compound met hoge noppen

    • Modder: open profiel voor zelfreiniging

    • Intermediate: allround noppenpatroon

    • Hardpack: lage noppen, stijvere constructie

  • What are the shipping costs and delivery times?
For orders over €75, we cover shipping costs within the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Otherwise, the standard shipping charge is €5.95. Products in stock are dispatched the same day. If an item is temporarily out of stock, delivery on backorder takes approximately 1 to 2 weeks.
  • How can I return my order?
You can return your order within 30 days. Email info@mxprostoreparts.com for return instructions, or see our return policy page.
